Does your tween/teen Sext?

Until about a year ago, I had not heard of "Sexting". What is "Sexting"?

"Sexting" is a problem amongst tweens/teens. It can be a racy, suggestive text, a partial and/or nude photo(s) which is sent via text or, picture text.

What young teens need to know if that although they may view such texts or emails to be "playful and/or flirty" is dangerous, and could be grounds for criminal charges.

In effort to keep my tween protected; I have talked to him openly and bluntly about "Sexting". It's all about information and sharing. He knows what is inappropriate and appropriate for him to receive in text or email. Whether he agrees with me or not, at least I know 1), he knows what is considered to be, "Sexting", 2) our expectations of the privilege of him possessing a cell phone; 3) most importantly, the possible consequences with the law of such behavior and/or decision.

Something I constantly remind him is that when texting via cell phone or instant messaging, nothing is permanently gone. Think TWICE before you hit "send".

Oh the joys of being a Parent in this day and age.
