What is "Sexting"?

"Sexting" is a problem amongst tweens/teens. It can be a racy, suggestive text, a partial and/or nude photo(s) which is sent via text or, picture text.

What young teens need to know if that although they may view such texts or emails to be "playful and/or flirty" is dangerous, and could be grounds for criminal charges.

In effort to keep my tween protected; I have talked to him openly and bluntly about "Sexting". It's all about information and sharing. He knows what is inappropriate and appropriate for him to receive in text or email. Whether he agrees with me or not, at least I know 1), he knows what is considered to be, "Sexting", 2) our expectations of the privilege of him possessing a cell phone; 3) most importantly, the possible consequences with the law of such behavior and/or decision.

Something I constantly remind him is that when texting via cell phone or instant messaging, nothing is permanently gone. Think TWICE before you hit "send".

Oh the joys of being a Parent in this day and age.

Grandparents Stardust Sprinklers

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_TTO7dVzOoJA/TFY21EO_OvI/AAAAAAAAACw/Xo09ouMkZLU/s200/FairyDust.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5500644280177212146" />
Nobody can do for little children what grandparents do. Grandparents sort of sprinkle stardust over the lives of little children. ~Alex Haley
____________________________________________

October is the month that I will become a Grandparent. The anticipation of meeting my grand baby has consumed my thoughts all afternoon. Reflection has also been a part of my thoughts today.

I consider myself blessed to have experienced the bond between a grandchild and grandparent. Although my Grandparents are resting in peace, I have many wonderful memories of them. At one point in my life, one of my Grandmas was a constant in my every day life and I still have very clear memories of her. She was a Diamond! She was beautiful, vibrant, loving, & unique. What I loved the most about her is that she talked to me no matter how busy she was with life. I would sit in the kitchen watching her while she made tortillas or, cracker pudding just talking up a storm. The memory of my Grandpa on my Mom's side: he used to love to fish the ponds at Camp Hail. He would whistle non-stop, as he awaited his catch and his energy was so tranquil. I always tried to whistle with him..yeah never learned how. (giggle) My Grandpa always made me feel calm and safe. My Grandma, on my Father's side, was a hardworking, loved by many near and far, an awesome cook. A special 'lil lady that children whom she cooked school lunches considered her to be their Grandma My Grandmas were strong, amazing and beautiful women! I guess you can say that my grandparents sprinkled allot of stardust upon this once child.

The magic and love will begin in approximately 9 weeks at which time I will begin sprinkling stardust in my Grandchild's life.

10 Reasons Why I am Rich

<img style="float:left; Every road leads somewhere right? Perhaps to an area where there is a river or, a lake. A place where you can enjoy and take in all that nature has to offer.

Volunteering. Such a wonderful feeling to give back to others in need. Perhaps volunteering at an elderly home, and spending time with someone who may be lonely. Recently, my family volunteered (Hearts for the Homeless). What an experience. Giving your time to others is of one's free will, and such a gift. Reaching out is quite simple and rewarding.

I absolutely love the laughter of children.

Organzing photos by scrapbooking.

Sharing ideas.

Reading a book.

The sound of my 12 year old whistling. His whistling is a sign that he's happy.

Lying in bed at night listening to the rain fall. (Minus the thunder of course).

The sound of coffee beans being ground and the anticipation of the aroma thereafter of freshly brewed coffee. Then, the first sip - AH!

Watching my 4 year old nephew try to skip.

I love to hear birds chirp.

The smiles on my boy's face.

A walk in the park with a friend or, someone you hold near and dear to your heart.

Take time to smell the flowers. Literally!

I could go on and on...I hope by now you get my point. How often do you take notice of life's simplicities?

I hope you have enjoyed what I feel are the simple things in life that make my life all the more worthwhile.

COMPANY OF FRIENDS

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 180px; height: 180px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_TTO7dVzOoJA/Ssf4ezU82FI/AAAAAAAAACA/Ysdp9g3KDsk/s320/ChineseFriendship.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5388548687229933650" />

Today I'm thankful for the "gift of friendship". May the souls of your loved ones be resting in peace.

TIME

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 133px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_TTO7dVzOoJA/Spt6_ddvgHI/AAAAAAAAABo/YHqhVcP954A/s200/reflection.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376025810856542322" />

Do you catch yourself waiting for,
family reunions,
the right time to start reading that one particular book,
to have lunch with a friend or family member,
for birthdays....

The list can go on and on.

The reality of life is that time waits for nobody.

Stop waiting for the next family reunion. The main symbolisms of the dragonfly are renewal, positive force and the power of life in general. Dragonflies can also be a symbol of the sense of self that comes with maturity. Also, as a creature of the wind, the dragonfly frequently represents change.

There are many different representations of the dragonfly; it all comes down to which culture you happen to be in. For instance, if you are in Japan, the dragonfly symbolizes a new light and joy. Some animal symbolism has the dragonfly representing good luck, prosperity, swiftness, purity, harmony and strength. In many Native American tribes dragonflies symbolize whirlwind, swiftness and much activity. For the Navajo they symbolize pure water. It is said in some Native American beliefs that dragonflies are a symbol of renewal after a time of great hardship. There are also many cultures that believe that the meaning of a dragonfly is happiness, courage and subconscious thoughts. It is also believed that if you see two dragonflies paired together that they represent love and maturity.

The dragonfly has been a symbol of happiness, new beginnings and change for many centuries and even though the representation of the dragonfly seems to change throughout the cultures, there are still a few things that are similar; the dragonfly means hope, change and love. Since cultures vary, others may see the dragonfly as a symbol of financial wealth like savings. With the constant changing of the world, it is no wonder that more and more people are adopting the dragonfly as their totem and admiring this beautiful insect.

Robyn's comments:

Every morning, I send out a "good morning" greeting to family, and friends. A simple gesture to people that I care, and love; letting them know that as I begin my day they are in my thoughts.

One morning, I sent an email with a picture of a purple, dragonfly. A friend, Regina, shared the above information. I found the info. to be uplifting and also confirmed why I liked dragonflies so much. Did you know the life span of a dragonfly is a few months? Knowing that its life span is short, it must know that it must live its life to the fullest! Another interesting fact, their eyes contain up to 30,000 individual lenses. Human eyes only have one! They have a top flight speed of up to 100 km/h, it can fly like a helicopter, moving in all directions, forward, backward, up and down. They can also hover. They are facinating!

I realize that each of our journey is different in many ways. That, the reality of the world we live, it's impossible to be living in perfect harmony 24/7. If you have the secret to living in that world, please share your secret with this chica. A gentle reminder, like the dragonfly, we have the ability to change what is not working for us. We each possess inner strength to get us through those times of challenge and a hope for renewal. The ability to attract and deflect positive energy. We must embrace life each day to the best of our ability.

Take care,

Robyn

TWO FROGS

A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit with all their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs took heed to what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down and died.

The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and just die. He jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the other frogs said, "Did you not hear us?" The frog explained to them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the entire time.

This story teaches two lessons:

1. There is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging word to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it through the day.

2. A destructive word to someone who is down can be what it takes to kill them.
Be careful of what you say. Speak life to those who cross your path. The power of words... it is sometimes hard to understand that an encouraging word can go such a long way. Anyone can speak words that tend to rob another of the spirit to continue in difficult times.

Special is the individual who will take the time to encourage another.

- Author Unknown

Robyn's two cents: What an inspiring story. Take heed: words can harm or heal.

What does Independence day mean to you?

To some it's a day where we gather with our families, and friends to bbq, As dusk sets, we either sit in front our homes, atop of our roofs or, head to a city park to view the fireworks display. Where as others, it's a day of reflection of their freedom of speech, government and religion.

I asked my 11 year old, "What does Independence Day mean to you?" His response, "fun, fireworks, and the day when we got our freedom. If we didn't have it, Mom, we wouldn't have the president that we do today." WOW, now the last statement in itself raised my eyebrows. Obvisiously my child is grasping the true meaning behind Independence Day other than the fun and fireworks. He realizes it is a day to recognize that we can live our life in the way we choose. A free life.

Today, as I spend and enjoy quality time with my family/friends; I will be thinking and praying for our active soldiers and their families. Afterall, their committment to protect and serve is the reason I can go about my life freely.

A special acknowledgement of gratitude to the brave men and women who have lost their lives fighting for our freedom. To their families who had no choice but to say goodbye early to their loved ones by default of protecting our country.

A gentle reminder by Moshe Dayan - "Freedom is the oxygen to our soul". May we never forget by and how we all possess this precious gift -- the oxygen to our soul.

Today is a day to cherish independence of nation and independence of self.

Que Dios los bendiga todos hoy y siempre! It is more important than the past, than education than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think or say or do.It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company, a home. a relationship. The remarkable thing is we have a choice, every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for the day.
We cannot change our past. We cannot change the fact that other people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude.

Robyn's two cents: I agree 100% in that as each of us go about our business on a day-to-day bases; i'ts our choice whether or not we will make the best of the day. Or, choose to have a crappy one. For instance, a few months ago, as I was driving into my office; I ran a red light. Can you believe that? I still can't -- dangerous, I know. Anyway, I didn't realize I had run it UNTIL....the red lights were flashin'. Anyway...so the Officer asked for my registration, DL, and Proof of Insurance. I truely believe my attitude had much to do with the Officer's decision to give me a "warning". I also took this as one another "God's wink" but that is on a different topic. (The comment of a "God Wink".) I believe in this instance, my attitude had much to do with the situation. I am finding that the more I choose to be positive regardless of what is going on at the time, I am more of a "smiley girl". I realize there are certain things I have no control over yet, I do have control of myself and how I react to situations in my life. Anyway..that's all I have to say about that...hey, What movie is that line from?
